As usual after any CHA show there are a multitude of products that start to trickle their way from the manufacturers to everyone that loves new things. One of these products that I know will be coming to Australia soon is the new eCraft Digital Cutting Machine. I expect your first thought is “not another cutting machine” but the eCraft does seem to have something that no other machine I have seen has.
The very sleek looking machine not only cuts but draws at the same time without having to change from blade to pen and pass over the design twice. Not only that the eCraft is I think the first cutter to not need a cutting mat. You stack the paper in a tray just like you do in your computer printer and allows you to cut multiple designs time after time without you reloading the machine. Manual mode allows you to feed in a single sheet and position your paper, card or even chipboard to any area and cut a design.
Features:
•Automatic Paper Settings (no manual adjustments needed)
•Paper Tray and Roller (no more messy cutting boards)
•Unique design handles paper up to 12" by ANY length
•Draws and cuts without changing from blade to a pen
•No computer required (but great software if you want to use one)
•SD Image Cards, with hundreds of designs to choose from
The eCraft uses SD memory cards to hold designs on and you can purchase ready made design cards to get you cutting straight away. There is also a software package available so you can design anything of your own and cut directly on your eCraft.
As soon as we have delivery dates, prices and any other details we will update this post so, keep watching.
I feel this is a new generation of cutters that will become popular whether you want a machine that you can design anything on yourself or just want to insert a card and press a few buttons. It has something for everyone, even those that don’t want to learn how to use a PC first.
As you see from the video above you not only control the cutting of your design but drawing too. Look out for the part of the demo where she cuts out a rabbit. Thats just very clever!
News Update:
Currently only a few have been made for samples and testing like the ones you see in the video and have all gone to the USA. It is thought that stocks will be heading for Australia about April this year. The early price talked about in the USA is thought to be rather low and by the time we get them here in Australia the price will probably be $499 for the machine bundled with a selection of papers etc.
I feel even at that price it is still good value for money when compared to what is currently available and it has features no other machine has. When you also consider there is no cutting mats to purchase or repositionable glues to hold things in place, it makes running costs very low indeed.
For those like me wondering how it can cut with no mat, it leaves maybe 4 or 5 tiny perforation tabs that just stop the shape from falling out. You just need to apply a little pressure and your shape falls free.
Further Update: 26-2-10
There should be stocks available by the end of March. As mentioned earlier, the machine can also draw and comes with black pens. In the accessory range for the machine there are other pen sets including pastel, primary, glitter and a set that has white, gold and silver pens. For anyone wanting to use their machine somewhere away from mains electricity, there is a battery pack that gives up to 4 hours use. Finally, there will be a choice of tote carry cases for the machines.
There has been a lot of interest in the machine already and we are looking forward to getting one of the first ones to try out. As soon as we can we will review it and get our findings here on Craft Mad.
News Update 17th June 2010
I have heard that some businesses are taking advanced orders for the e-Craft and we will be doing the same in about a week. July is being given as a delivery date but I do know that none have been loaded on to a boat yet for the trip to Australia or anywhere else in the world yet. I'm not saying July is out of the question but, it may be in that last week or early August to be realistic.
I know that the first shipment will be at a special price and it will include items that probably won't be in further deliveries but will be available at extra costs. I can't say too much at this point but I can say that we will have a super special deal very soon for pre-orders on the first delivery.
News Update 14th July 2010
Pre- orders are now being taken for delivery at the end of July to the first part of August. This is really good news after a very long wait it will soon be here. You can get more details here http://www.blueedgecrafts.com.au/sho...-pr-26074.html
More news on the eCraft as soon as we get it.
