• Cake and Candle Card by Kaye McGrath

    Instructions
    The Card
Step 1: Using the 30cm x 14 cm piece of card, score lines at 7cm, 14cm and 16cm.
Fold on all lines and attach the 14cm x 14cm piece of card to make an easel card.
Set this aside while we make the candle box and cake.

    The Candle Box
Step 2: Cut a piece of card 11cm x 8cm, score around each four sides at .5 cm and 1 cm.
Fold all score lines and trim edges to make a box.
Use the attached diagram and photo for the correct way to cut and fold.

Before gluing the box together cut a 5.5cm x 3cm hole in the centre of the top of the box and attach a piece of acetate on the inside of the opening.
You could use a cutting die for this if you have the appropriate size
Now glue the box together leaving the front end open to insert the candles.
Decorate the box as you wish. I glued a strip of patterned paper around the edge and added a ribbon after I had attached it to the card.

    The Cake
Step3: Glue the ends of the 1.9cm strip of card together to form a 5.5cm circle then glue one of the 6cm circles to the base of the circle.

Step 4: Punch some holes in the top of the other 6cm circle for the candles
Note I suggest no more than three holes so as not to weaken the top of the cake. I originally punched three holes but then decided to only have one. You can also glue a plastic candle holder into the holes if you wish.
Step 5: Glue the top onto your cake and decorate as you wish. I glue a strip of patterned paper around the edge with a ribbon and cut a Spellbinders die for the top and added rhinestones.
You should now have a cake and candle box that look something like this.

    Assembly
Step 6: Add a piece of 13cm x 13 cm piece of patterned paper to the front and the base of the easel card. Glue the candle box and cake onto the front of the card base, see photo for suggested placement.

Step 7: Decorate your card and add the candles to the box.

For my card I have used a paper doily, a Spellbinders Lotus Pendant die , Sarah 7 clear stamp, paper flowers and a Joycraft butterfly die as well as Blue Edge Combo Past Spodia Batik Pastel Spots paper .
This card was adapted from a tutorial on the Stempeleinmaleins blog .
If you wish you can attach a ribbon to the back of the folded card and tie at the front for presentation.
