Creativehands - Chicks can make quite a mess, but they are cute. Do you know what kind they are? I had the prettiest little speckled Bantam hen when I was a child and she made a very nice pet until a fox got her.

Kaye - I'll have mine soon enough, and probably sooner than I'd like. My baby joined the Army and will be leaving next July, one month after his 18th birthday. I am very proud of him for his commitment to serve his country, but I am going to miss him terribly. Unlike many teenagers, he is a joy to have around. He still gives me hugs and isn't embarrassed to go shopping with me.

Mandy - the part about the weights probably not being a good idea made me laugh!

They are just ordinary chicks. My sons kinder had a hatch programme and the kids got to take home the chicks once the eggs hatched. I'm just hoping one of them doesn't turn out to be a rooster. This is the first year that my 5 yr old has started to sleep thru the night, so I'm not sure I want to go back to being woken at some ridiculous hour with a cock-a-doodle-doo .

If it's a rooster, you could have him for supper! (sorry, couldn't resist)

ROFL @ Kaye & Beth, poor old Roosters wouldn't stand much of a chance in your patch would they? One of my friends has a rooster that crows every morning at about 4am, she said she's got used to it now, I'd be out there with a big stick

I had a brilliant day at the zoo yesterday, got heaps of really nice pictures, Ian got a new camera on Wednesday so what better way to test it out than on the Pandas. After a bit of queuing, we got into see them, I have to say, their enclosure is really something, so nice and clean and very well set out, shame the poor giraffes don't get that much space. As for the lions, I think they should be moved to Monarto. We saw a teeny tiny baby meercat which was being huddled over by all the other meercats, so cute, Ian got a picture, think I missed it. I was on cam corder duty and after forgetting to take off the lens cover, I also made the stupid mistake of thinking that the red light meant the it had stopped recording...........when really ti was on standby, so I got lovely views of everyones feet and legs and us talking and walking and not much of any animals at first. I realsied when I was in the Panda enclosure though, so all wasn't';t wasted. Just missed a bit of stuff. We also saw the Orang Utangs being fed and also the ring tailed possums which are so cute with their really long tails. Also, the little red kangaroo was awake and eating too, which was good.

All in all a lovely day, we both caught a bit of the sun, which is funny as it wasn't at all sunny until the afternoon. Today, I'm back refreshed and so glad it's Friday, got heaps of stuff to sort out in my craft room this weekend, got to make room for the eCraft and move my Klic n Kutz too, plus a huge shelf unig needs to be moved. Once it's done, I'll get Ian to take a few piccies of it all.

Not guilty this time Mandy, I stayed right out of the rooster debate. Thought there were enough people in the naughty corner already . It was hard to resist though.
Sounds like a lovely day at the zoo So good to do something different to recharge the batteries.
Just spent a few hours in the garden and I'm good for nothing now, well maybe sitting at the craft desk after a little nanny nap I am sure it is going to rain soon so no more gardening today, that is my excuse anyway.

LOL ladies, I think I'd end up in the naughty corner too. I'd probably get out there and strangle the rooster (just kidding). But I certainly will be finding it a new home very soon, if it did turn out to be a rooster.
My, Mandy, the zoo sounded like so much fun. Which zoo is this?
My 5 year old loves animals (wild ones, mind you). The first pet he asked for was an elephant. When I told him we couldn't have one because our home is too small, he asked for a Giraffe. He is sure he's going to be a zoo keeper when he grows up

I can't believe you wouldn't let him have an elephant. Now that is really mean
So any chance of the giraffe coming to live with you?
Our neighbour has 4 chooks which run fairly freely around the yard and they do get some very surprised looks from passerbys. Not what you normally see in 8kms from the city. I think his cattle dog thinks they are sheep as it does love to round them up.

Awww, I'd have bought a cute little rabbit, strapped a foam filled sock to it and told him it was a minature elephant5 years old's would appreciate that humour. He does sound like a vet in the making.

That is funny about the chooks, Kaye, I think our neighbour ahs a chicken or two, I sometimes hear their noises in the back yard, never seen them though. I don't think our council byelaws allow for farm animals as we're pretty residential, I'm not going to complain though, they are harmless enough.........it's the kids that get to me One day, I woke up to the sound of a sheep 'Baaaing".... it went on for a few days and then it went...............probably one the table and in the freezer.

I was having a kind of nice day, weeded a lot of the front garden, planted some mondo grass and even managed to put together a wheely stool for my room............then, when bringing the washing in from the garden, I tripped on a stupid bit of raised concrete and have hurt my ankle. So now, I'm confined to the sofa, shame hey It was kind of rough justice as Ian has been saying for ages that we need to do something about this bit of concrete as it's dangerous and someone could trip..............I actually remember saying "only if they were half blind". In my defence, I did have a huge pile of washing in my arms and could not see where I was going properley.

Oh no Mandy that was bad luck. Hope you haven't sprained it. Now Ian make sure you cook Mandy a nice dinner and wash the dishes and wait on her hand and foot.

Fairly quiet day here, out for a while this morning and a few cards made this afternoon Just catching up on a bit of computer stuff and was about to have a shower and put dinner on and we now have a visitor for coffee, not dinner, not sure if he realises that yet lol.

Wow! A bit of reading to catch up on in here since we went away!

We came back home from our holiday late yesterday afternoon. Had a quiet one last night - needed to detox as it's been "Saturday night" every night since Wednesday when our friends joined us at the holiday house Warrnambool was cold, overcast and windy but I really didn't care as long as I was away from home for a while. I made 10 Christmas cards in the first couple of days that we were away, and once our friend arrived craft was pretty much out of the question as they brought a 13-month-old with them and we had to child-proof the house. Mostly we just relaxed. Took the kids to the really big playground down there, and I took 280 photos in the hour or so that we were there. I'm thinking surely there will be one or two worth scrapbooking! Another day we all went fishing and my friend Sue and I took her gorgeous grandson with us for a walk around the cemetery which was across the road from where the guys were fishing. Lovely cemetery, we walked around the old section, so interesting! Sue's grandson went to sleep after about 5 mins so it was very peaceful walking lol. The other kids all stayed with the guys, Nicole went back to the car and went to sleep (she's been very lethargic as her iron count is extremely low at the moment), Rachel and the two other kids that were with us went between monitoring fishing rods and making a cubby in the trees on the sand dunes.
Back home and back to reality now. I've almost finished another TAFE assignment, finished my Xmas in July sewing swap (thank you Merry for being so patient), had a few family issues (father and grandmother related), and tomorrow I am back at work.
When scrapbooking, remember to do journalling in your albums - no matter how ugly your handwriting is, it is a gift for future generations

wow, you sure have been busy, Wendy, good to hear you had a nice time away, hope Nicoles problem gets sorted out really soon, Good luck with those TAFE assignments.

I'm okay, Kaye, it is a bit swollen on the side and I'm kind of scared to put it down to the ground much. Did manage to make a nice salad for tea to go with Ians smashing barbi sausages. I must have been wicked in a previoius life cos there ain't no rest in this house I had to smile at your visitor thinking he's coming to dinner only to go away with just a coffe. Funny how they always rock up at tea time hey??
