Default New here to Craft Mad!

Hello, my name is Kathi. I'm a mother of four, but only two live at home. The other two are grown and have their own. I love to do crafts, especially quilting. I find that it relaxes me and moves my creative juices. I've made a memory quilt for my parents, some baby quilts for friends. And I am trying to start up my own home based business. I did have an online based business, but with being on a single income I had to cancel the website (for now). I am going to school for business management. I haven't decided if I want to apply this to restarting my craft business, which the husband would love because I would be at home all the time, or my bridal shop that I've had stuck in my head for 6+ years and keeps growing.

I am looking for some insight as to how to make a family tree quilt. Basically a queen to king size, and how much material I will be needing. This is my latest mission.

Look forwarding to getting to know people on here and learning more!

Hi Kathi, so nice to meet you. We have just started a block swap for our Sewing Swap this month at Craftmad with the plan to do this for three months and have 9 x 9" blocks to create a Craftmad Family Quilt. This is a learning experience for me. I have made a patchwork work quilt before but that was just sewing random coloured squares together. Actually, made two....the front of one is still sitting in my cupboard waiting for batting and a back. Something I will do this year. Sounds like you have a busy crafting life. Enjoy your stay, if you have any questions please just ask, someone will know the answer.

Hi Kathi and welcome from me as well. I don't sew a stitch unless I really have to but I like to pop in here and have a look at what is going on, yes ... I am just a sticky beak.
Look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Kathi and welcome to craft mad, we're just attempting our first block quilt on here and as Merry says, its a real learning curve, with some experienced quilters and some not so experienced (like me lol) I used to do a bit of quilting years ago and am just starting to get back into it. Sounds like you've got lots of plans in your head, getting a good feel for business by attending courses is a great idea - it will help you avoid most of the pitfalls that those of us who just dove in learnt with experience.

We've had our business for over 13 years now, although the craft side of it has been going for just over 10 years. Its been fun, exciting, hard work and a real eye opener. Craft Mad is run by us although it's more like a hobby and not a real business and I think I like it that way, it kind of takes the pressure off if you know that you don't have to "work" at it. Anyhow, have fun and I look forward to chatting with you around the place.
