you can see my blocks in the gallery that I have so far, so if you want to match to those go ahead, its definitely going to be a rainbow quilt!
Loving this!
Can't wait to get started next!!!
The second month of our Craftmad Family Quilt Block swap. So exciting to see all the blocks coming together. This month we are swapping a 9" String Block.....so your block should measure 9 1/2" to allow for seams when sewing the quilt together. If anyone has changed their colour choice please post below. These blocks should reach your partners by the 29th February. If you don't think you will make it please just message your partner and let them know. When mailing off your blocks I suggest that you put them in a plastic envelope or bag due to all the rain around Australia at the moment.

Can't wait to see what this month brings![]()
Thanks Wendy, I seriously thought we we're going to be doing the same pattern every month, this is so much more of a challenge as we learn something new every month![]()

Just wondering if you are all going to do just one big string block or a block with 4 blocks of strips that meet in the middle? and if you are doing that, wondering if you are doing all the blocks the same?
Hope that makes sense.
I imagined we would make one 9 1/2" square in each of the recipents chosen colours.
If I may make a suggestion so that the strip blocks 'go together' ...........
It depends on each person's colour preferences, but, if each person could nominate their 'centre strip' colour, then when the blocks are received there will be a common 'theme'. multiple blocks could go together to form a 'diamond' pattern, or a zig zag pattern or be scattered throughout the final quilt.
I found a link here for paper piecing strip blocks

Sorry, Annmaree, I haven't even thought about this one yet - darned accounts holding me up. Anyhow, I think Cathy has it all "sewn" up lol

I was thinking 4 squares on each block would be best, since the previous cuts have been 4 squares if that makes sense?![]()
Ok this is what I've come up with so far... (Mandy or Kelly don't look, it'll either be one of yours lol)

Annmaree, lovely pic
would you prefer your block like that - that would make it 4 @ 5" (approx) squares joined together to get a 9 1/2" block
if so, do you have a preference for a centre colour?
I am still awaiting moderation of the post I made with some links to other 'strip blocks'
My colour preference is the same as noted above, I would prefer one (1) 9 1/2" block with the centre strip being the darkest colour
I'm as cheesed off as you now with this moderation, why is it ding it??? I can see all the post fine, maybe because I'm admin - not of much by the looks of it. Ian is very busy right now with the new shop update, hopefully by the weekend it will be time to sort this out

hmmm, I'm not having much luck with my second string block, can't get them lined up, and they are not perfect, even my first wasn't the best.
Can I make a suggestion if it isn't too late?
Could we just do the rail fence block for all our swaps? and just use different fabrics etc, at least then the quilt would flow then? what do you all think?
Sorry this is just raelly doing my head in today!
Hi Annmaree - sorry the block is doing your head in
the strip block is not really designed to 'match up' perfectly - I think it was originally designed to use up all the scraps and leftovers.
I hope my earlier post with the links to strip blocks is moderated/published soon, you may view it in a different light
Following on from your suggestion to have blocks made up of '4 blocks' ...... whilst I can understand your thinking, I think it would limit future choices of blocks.
I thought the idea here was to make up a 'sampler' type quilt, made up of different blocks from different members using a preferred colour scheme - please correct me if I have the wrong idea![]()
